The New Hyde Park Wildcats U-19 Flying Tigers soccer team has opened the season with a decisive roar going 2-0-1 in as many weeks.
Week one recorded a dominating win over the Freeport Stars. The 6-2 final saw Daniel Hackett and Robert Cydzik score two goals apiece. Tommy Fitzpatrick and Matt Corrigan also scored. Goalie Nick Duras was near perfect with only two goals slipping past — one on a penalty kick. The defense kept the Stars in check limiting the shots on goal and shutting down the opposing team’s offense.
Week two was another decisive win when the Flying Tigers bested the Wantagh-Seaford Lightening at Tully Park. Showing their amazing foot skills and excellent communication, goals were scored on break aways, through balls, rebounds and direct shots. Scorers included Tommy Marchelos, Daniel Hackett, Dylan Figueroa, Robert Cydzik and Joeseph Tomich. Goalie Nick Duras was perfect saving every shot on goal for a final score of 5-0.
Week three was the toughest game for the Tigers this season. Playing in the warmest conditions to date, the boys sweated to 1-1 tie against the Sound Beach Stampede of Shoreham-Wading River. Dylan Figueroa scored the only goal for game.
The coaches, continuing to push team work, told their players that these good results would not have been possible without every player doing their part both on and off the field. Coaches Andre Garabedian, Tom Smith and Joe Tomich together with trainer Jose Martinez are looking forward to another win when the Flying Tigers take on the Farmingdale Force, October 15, 11:30am at NHP Memorial High School.
