Congratulations to the NHP GU18-20 Graduating Seniors! Pictured are Sam Hallock, Casey Connors, Victoria Bruno, Brenda Clark, and Nicole Moody.
The GU18/20 NHP Lady Pumas completed an undefeated LIJSL Premiere season, going 8-0 with a +22 Goal Differential and only 4 goals against. The girls also lead the division in Sportsmanship as we complete the final week of league play. Coach Kevin Krems and Kieran Griffin are extremely proud of this fine group of young ladies, as we graduate 6 seniors. We look to pick up the pace in Fall/Spring with our Junior/Sophomores, as we enter our final year with LIJSL. SUPER JOB Ladies!!
The NHP Jaguars finished the spring season with five wins in a row to win the BU16 Division 1 title. In posting a 6-1-1 record, the Jaguars netted 22 goals while only surrendering 5. Congratulations to the Jaguars and its supportive parents.
I'd like to provide some Fall options for those 2007 boys who are currently playing U10 intramural soccer:
The boys have two options if they want to continue to play soccer with the Wildcats in the fall (and we hope they do!):
1. The Travel Soccer Option:
You may have heard that there are Travel Tryouts this week and next for players born in 2008 since we are forming those Fall U10 travel teams for the first time. 2007 boys are not appropriate for these tryouts, but since there are so many 2007 players in Intramurals this season, we also want to offer the boys the opportunity to join a structured tryout for a travel team as well. Since our three existing 2007 teams all need to expand their rosters to accommodate the shift from 7v7 to 9v9 in the fall when they move to U11, the timing is opportune for the current U10 Intramural players to tryout if they decide that Travel Soccer is in their interest. For brevity’s sake, I won’t explain the Travel Soccer experience here, but the commitment of both time and money is more significant. Players are grouped based on their level of development, and the teams play in a division appropriate for their level (we have a Champions Division team, a Division 3 team, and a Division 4 team).
We will host a tryout for 2007 players on Tuesday, June 13th from 5-6:30pm. There are a limited number of spots available, so not everyone is guaranteed placement on a team, but we’d love to have a nice turnout. If you would like to know more, please email myself or Kieran Griffin to discuss your options. And please write me to let me know if your son plans to try out.
2. Senior Intramurals / Inter-Town:
There are no tryouts required for Senior Intramurals. The experience is similar to U10 Intramurals in terms of commitment and cost, except that the teams actually play against other towns on either Saturdays or Sundays and the game start times vary. Players still have the option of paying a bit extra to train with SUSA during the week, and the teams tend to practice 1-2x per week. Registration for the Fall season will open in the coming weeks, and you can register as you would normally. Please note, however, that these teams fill *very* fast, and we inevitably have to turn players away who register late. We turned away 11 boys and girls last season, unfortunately, because the teams were maxed at 18 and we just couldn’t take any more without the deteriorating the experience for all. So, you must act very quickly once registration opens if this is your chosen option. It is not like Intramurals where we just continue to expand to accommodate all.
Hopefully this is helpful. Please note that the options aren’t mutually exclusive — by this I mean that if a boy would prefer the Travel option, he can try out. If he doesn’t get a spot, he can always register for the Senior Intramural option.
If you have questions or would like to discuss your son’s situation, I’d be happy to talk. You can also reach out to Kieran Griffin, our Travel Commissioner, to discuss the options.
New Hyde Park Intramural players born in 2008 who have played for 2 intramural seasons in NHP will have tryouts for U10 Travel Soccer this week and next. For those parents of a 2009 child interested in having your son or daughter tryout for the 2008 team, please contact Scott Liewehr or Kieran Griffin about playing up in age. The tryouts sessions are as follows:
Tuesday, June 6th: Boys 5:00-6:30
Monday, June 12th: Girls 5:00-6:30
Tuesday, June 13th: Rain date
All sessions will take place at Denton Avenue School - 1050 Denton Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY.
All players should wear their NHP intramural uniform. The young ladies should wear an undershirt in case they are asked to switch colors.
If your son or daughter is planning on attending the tryouts, PLEASE REGISTER FOR TRYOUTS IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY. Just click the Register link on the main menu of this site.
Travel Tryouts are not available to those who have not played New Hyde Park Intramural soccer before. Players who live in 11040 must have played in the Spring '17 season, and players from outside 11040 must have played in the Spring '17 season as well as either the Winter or the Fall of '16.
Congratulations to the Boys U10 Cougars for winning the Scarsdale Memorial Day Tournament, the Girls U15 Lady Panthers for taking the title at the Massapequa Lincoln Page Memorial Day Tournament, the Boys U8 Panthers for taking first place in the East Meadow tournament, and the Boys U12 Fire Cats for taking 2nd place at the Commack Memorial Day tournament.
Well done to all three teams!
